Cedar Rapids Sweep Beloit in Four-Game Set

The Cedar Rapids Kernels completed the four-game sweep of the Beloit Snappers 5-4 Friday night in front of a packed crowd at Pohlman Field.The Snappers jumped on the board early as lead-off batter James Beresford reached on a fielding error to lead off the first inning. Centerfielder Aaron Hicks doubled to right to move Beresford to third. Ramon Santana grounded out to short that scored Beresford to give the Snappers a 1-0 lead.

In the third frame the Snappers extended their lead by three with the big hit coming from Santana who hit a two-run shot to right center that scored Hicks who had tripled with one out. Beresford scored earlier in the inning on the Hicks' triple.

The Kernels went on to score five unanswered runs late to complete the four game sweep of the Snappers.

Snappers' starter Bobby Lanigan went 5 2/3 innings as he took a no-decision. Lanigan had also struck out five batters while only allowing three earned runs. Bruce Pugh worked an inning while he struck out two Kernel hitters.

The Snappers will hit the road Saturday night as they start a four game set with the Peoria Chiefs in Peoria, IL and will be back at Pohlman Field Wednesday, July 8th to take on the South Bend Silver Hawks.
